  • This was a main crossing over the river Foyle, the bridge was left open.

  • The British Army had a permanent base on the northern side of the crossing called the Camel's Hump! This base was attacked many times.

  • The British customs known as the "Water Rats" patrolled regularly in this area in their cars.
