  • The crossing was opened up in the 1950's and this was a major event for the community at that time.

  • There was a static Garda and Irish Army checkpoint at this junction.

  • In August 1973, two members of the IRA were transporting a bomb when the device exploded, killing both people.

  • The Border Inn was a popular local dance hall just on the southern side of the border. A loyalist group burnt it to the ground after holding the place up and robbing everyone attending the dance.
