  • This bridge at this crossing was spiked and then closed in 1971. It was never blown up. Some people thought that this was because the surrounding land around the bridge was owned by wealthy Protestant farmers.

  • This border crossing was a famous smuggling route – where locals would smuggle from the nearby Lavelle’s Shop.

  • An old post box on the bridge is one of a few still intact from Queen Victoria’s reign, it is inscribed with VR which stands for Victoria Regina.
