The bridge was spiked in 1956-57.

The border crossing was blown up in the early 1970s then dug up on the northern side by the British Army.

Local residents did not fill in the crater, instead they made a road that went down the banks of the hole left by the explosion and up the other side.

Whilst the crossing was impassable the local farmers used fields close-by to cross the border, the British Army also dug this route up to prevent the farmers crossing.
