  • The bridge was spiked in 1956-57.

  • The border crossing was blown up in the early 1970s then dug up on the northern side by the British Army.

  • Local residents did not fill in the crater, instead they made a road that went down the banks of the hole left by the explosion and up the other side.

  • Whilst the crossing was impassable the local farmers used fields close-by to cross the border, the British Army also dug this route up to prevent the farmers crossing.
