Drumfurer, Culamore, Tyrone/Monaghan Unapproved Road


  • This road was cratered from 1956 and left lying there was not much traffic on this road.

  • This was a renowned smuggling road .

  • There was a great humour in the local area when the foot and mouth people patrolled this road. Tthey probably only saw one car per day, if even.

  • Local people were unable to get to the Fourth Chapel for mass when this road was closed.

  • In the early 1990’s (December) there was a bomb in the locality. Local people heard the explosion but next morning there was no evidence of a bomb. Some say that people were possibly transporting a bomb when it exploded.

  • Legend has that a giant was standing on a hill at Culamore and threw a stone to Knockmany Hill , outside Augher. (Possibly W.B Yeats)
