This crossing was blown up and blocked a number of times by the British Army, each time it was refilled and cleared of any barriers by the local residents.
The concrete barriers were so large and heavy the people involved in clearing the roads devised a simple method to remove them. The digger driver would dig a hole in front of the barrier and pull the concrete barriers into the hole, using it to make the new foundations of the reopened road.
