Lackey Bridge

There were a number of crossing points that featured frequently for groups attempting to open cross border roads in the Clones / Roslea area. Two of the most prominent in the 1988 - 1992 period were Lackey Bridge and Mullinahinch / Aghafin. Crowds of a couple of dozen would gather on a Saturday usually. There would be mostly using people to move material rather than machinery. There was very little by way of machinery available but in any case there was always the possibility that a snatch squad might seize what was being used so the tractor and link box would have been the most that was used at this time. A car belonging to one of the workers had been seized by the military at Mullinahinch / Aghafin despite it being “safely” on the Monaghan side of the border at one of the road building days there.
